Joanna Mortreux is a French/Australian visual artist living and working in Berlin. Having completed an Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Melbourne she went on to study Fine Arts (Painting) obtaining a Diploma and a Degree with Distinction from RMIT Melbourne.

Her practice explores the tensions, fragility and uncomfortable process of being. She does this through creating anthropomorphic, almost sensual depictions of the monuments, artefacts and sculptures that make up our collective histories. The resulting figures and forms in her large format oil paintings and smaller detailed ceramics have a universal and timeless feel.
